Teaching Kids The Joy of Faith
The obedience for helping the neediest, bears good fruits.
March 12, 2015 - El Salvador
My name is Reina de Magaña, I am 30 years old and I have a Bachelor’s degree in Education in Pre-Kindergarten. I started working for NPH El Salvador when I was only 19 years old. God has blessed me in many ways, and one of them is to be able to help the children living at the NPH home.
In October 2004, I was recommended to NPH by a priest who was leading a Mass for the NPH children. He was living in the nearby town and serving in a beautiful church from Texistepeque. He told me that NPH needed a teacher to give classes in religious education. I was told they needed someone who is caring, loving and likes to spend time with the children. This inspired and motivated me because I love children. The priest explained why the children at the NPH home were not living with their parents. The reasons seemed very cruel and sad to me. This is why I decided to become a part of this big NPH family, and thinking to myself that I could help by teaching them the Word of God.
Since I started working with the girls and boys of NPH, they inspired me to continue studying. I decided to attend university and studied for a Bachelor’s degree in Education and specializing in Kindergarten. I was studying at night because I was not able to study during the day. I come from a very humble family who couldn't cover university costs. Therefore, continuing working at NPH during the day and having this secure job offered me the opportunity to pay for my school and help my parents and siblings economically since they needed it.
I work teaching religious education classes in spiritual formation for the children. The classes consist of attending Mass, catechism, Catholic ritual events, and youth groups with informal conversations about faith.
The children are receiving the resources they need to explore their faith and religion. We have classes from kindergarten to ninth grade. Additionally, we have a classroom for special kindergarten and the ABC program. Thanks to this job I can cover the necessities of my family, home, and have the satisfaction of knowing that I am making God’s kingdom grow here on earth.
Currently, I am married, have a Bachelor's degree and a great experience in working with NPH children. Furthermore, I have a longing to continue serving God by helping the NPH children while hoping each day to make things better. Thank you NPH for this opportunity.
I would like to thank our National Director, the home directors, and the other spiritual leaders in our homes such as Cristo Paz group for the support they give the children as they navigate their steps and their growth in faith and fellowship.
