The Family Services department of NPH International is a team of international childcare professionals who assist in providing holistic childcare solutions for the nine NPH homes.
In promoting childhood development they focus on the following areas:
- National Directors training and development
- Childcare staff orientation, training and development including topics such as discipline and sexuality
- Children and youth character formation, including values and morals, life skills, catechism, drug abuse prevention, leadership and responsible parenthood
This volunteer position consists of running the program “capacitaciones”, an area of the psychology department. The person in this position is responsible for organizing and implementing a curriculum of training and education for the children, “tías” (caregivers), teachers, directors, and other employees. This person coordinates meetings with the directors of the house and of the specific areas in order to plan the schedule of programs.
Topics of the various curriculums include but are not limited to: basic skills for care and treatment of children with emotional problems, positive discipline, self-esteem, sexual education; all of which are based on the specific needs of the house.
Another responsibility of this position is to be available for individual consultations with the caregivers when there are specific problems in their sections. This includes working directly with the caregiver and a specific child or group of children, helping to create behavior modification plans, and recommending books from the department’s library.
